A downsizer that got an upgrade.
Thinking of downsizing but not ready to part with a lifetime of possessions?
Our Ashwood customers faced this dilemma – downsizing from a spacious 4-bedroom house to a compact 3-bedroom unit.
The new unit ticked all the boxes, as far as the ideal property goes; set back from the street, 3 bedrooms, double car space, good security, low maintenance and a small backyard. However, the interior was outdated and the kitchen rather dreary and uninviting.
They knew it needed a white kitchen makeover, but didn’t want to spend too much money or time into the project.
Finding inspiration on Instagram
It was time to explore all options and find a suitable solution. After scrolling through Instagram, looking for kitchens they might like, they discovered Kitchen Shack. The real life kitchens featured were very appealing.
Self-confessed ‘lovers of detail’ they thoroughly examined each kitchen. Reading Kitchen Shack’s Customer Renovation articles and google reviews gave them a realistic understanding of the process, and what could be achieved on a budget.
Working with an experienced kitchen designer
Armed with plans, measurements, and plenty of well researched ideas, they visited the Nunawading showroom, for their design and quote.
They were highly impressed with the friendly team and the experienced Kitchen Designer San. They found San was easy to work with and he crafted a clever design for a functional kitchen with extra storage and improved workflow.
When you’re downsizing to a smaller home storage becomes a major priority as it was for this couple. Let’s face it – we all struggle to let go of old possessions!
San worked his design magic and created a compact kitchen with an ample smart storage. Our customers commented “Somehow we managed to fit all our old things into this new compact kitchen, and our old home was double the size!”
The design included cabinetry and accessories to maximise storage such as;
- Large corner pantry
- Wall oven tower
- Shallow cabinet for chopping boards
- Lazy Susan corner cupboard
- Pull-out bins
- Deep drawers
Achieving a modern and timeless appeal
With the layout and functionality sorted they turned their focus to the finishes.
The couple wanted to create a modern, yet timeless look, that was easy to keep clean. They decided to keep it all-white to increase the sense of space and reflect as much natural light as possible.
Selecting cabinetry, benchtops and splash back with a similar finish achieved the minimalist look.
- Ultra white cabinetry
- Profile white satin handles
- YDL Classic white stone benchtops & splash back
- White light fittings
- Induction cooktop
Including the laundry in the renovation
The laundry also got a makeover, and once again our Designer cast his spell and created a compact wonder.
A tall cabinet was added to store the vacuum, mop, broom, and cleaning products. The washer and dryer were stacked on top of each other, allowing additional bench space. But the best part – a new bar fridge, with a fold-out ironing board tucked away above it.
Friday night ironing has never look so good!
An impressive result at a great price
The Ashwood couple are thrilled with the results, commenting ” we cannot believe how much we got for the price. It was super easy to work with Kitchen Shack and the team were delightful to work with. The ‘one on one’ guidance from start to finish was excellent.”
So what was the cost of the kitchen and laundry renovation?
It’s the question everyone’s asking! The total cost of the cabinetry and benchtops for the kitchen and laundry came in under $26,000!
That’s impressive considering the number of additional accessories like the large pantry, pull-out bins, lazy Susan, wall oven tower and drawer stacks.
At a time when the average Melbourne kitchen only renovation costs $30-$45K, this is exciting news for those planning a budget kitchen & laundry renovation.
If you’re ready to give your downsizer, family home or first home a makeover, then let’s work together. We enjoy helping renovators get the look they want for less.
