We’re pretty confident you’re going to love this Oakleigh Kitchen Renovation as well as the Butler’s Pantry and Laundry!
There’s no doubt we spend most of our time at home in the kitchen, and for most busy parents the laundry is not far behind.
In recent times the way we use our homes has shifted significantly, with home buyers prioritising kitchens. According to HIA Kitchens and Bathrooms report, Australians are demanding better functional kitchens. ‘The pandemic has changed households’ relationship with their home. After so much time spent working from home, Australians are putting higher value on their home environment, demanding more space and amenity.’
The value of quality and design
With the value of kitchens being top of the priority list embarking on a major renovation is always daunting, and requires thorough research.
Our clients understood this when they decided to renovate their existing home with a good quality kitchen being top of the list.
Their Oakleigh home is a 1930’s brick Bungalow that lacked open spaces for modern living. They decided to open up the home especially the kitchen and open plan dining to family room. Wanting high quality but knowing the builder costs would add up quick they searched for budget friendly options for their large kitchen.
Working with Gareth, Kitchen Designer at Moorabbin, they designed the perfect design solution to meet their needs.
Originally the laundry was next to the kitchen. By moving the laundry this space could then be designed as a butler’s pantry which would be the perfect solution for entertaining. The laundry renovation was then relocated to the other side of their home. The laundry renovation was also completed at the same time when installer and trades were onsite to save extra costs.
Clever solutions for design dilemmas
Our Oakleigh couple enjoyed working with our Moorabbin Designer, Gareth, appreciating his well-considered designs and his detail in finding solutions for their renovation.
The kitchen layout is now well designed to be functional with a centre island bench, perfect for entertaining. There is also loads of storage with cabinetry now up to the ceiling.
This was achieved by designing standard cabinetry adding lower pot drawers at the base being the perfect spot for large platters and cooking trays. An experienced designer like Gareth can design to any space which achieves prefect results for clients.
Additional design ideas feature two spice racks either side of the cooktop for easy reach of the herbs and spices when cooking.
Further, the impressive 2.2m x 1.4m island bench with stone waterfalls either end creates a wow factor but also functionality with the sink in the centre. With the extra width, the island doubles as a workspace and dining which now fosters a sense of community where friends and family gather. The open design allows the cook to be part of the conversation, inviting everyone to participate in family life.
It’s these small details that make a kitchen functional yet practical.
Keeping it classic yet tidy
The main kitchen has been designed using our classic Shaker style cabinetry in white and pewter perfectly matched with the YDL Mineral Stone in Angel Falls for the benchtops.
This kitchen is a true showstopper. The accent details like slimline black handles and overhead pendant lights from Beacon Lighting have been carefully selected to compliment the classic design.
The real workhorse is the adjacent Butler’s Pantry. So if you’ve ever wondered how some kitchens remain ‘photoshoot ready’, this is like the secret.
Tucked behind a sliding door lies a fully functional Butler’s Pantry which acts as a second kitchen space. Ample storage, benchtops and appliances like the fridge frees up space in the adjacent kitchen.
Mirroring the main kitchen cabinetry, the pantry is the ideal place for the messy prep work. Equipped with the fridge, sink, cooktop, oven and XL pull-out bins this space would delight any butler.
The addition storage is always a welcome bonus, featuring loads of drawers for pots and pans, a double pantry, and open shelves. Breaking up a large bank of cabinetry with open shelves adds a touch of style and provides space for personal touches.
Consistency is key to good design
Designing all three spaces with the same Shaker style cabinets, handles and stone benchtops creates uniformity in your home.
The laundry features a long benchtop with under mount sink and a side-by-side washer and dryer. To keep the laundry organised, large pull-out baskets were added beside the washing machine…avoiding the dreaded mountain of dirty laundry!
Overhead cabinetry keeps the detergents out of reach and out of sight, resulting in a super luxe laundry.
Our Oakleigh family are thrilled with their new kitchen, butler’s pantry and laundry. Moorabbin Designer, Gareth nailed the design brief and ensured their renovation achieved their design and budget. This elegant design is classic and will look stunning for many years to come.
