Glen Iris DIY Kitchen Renovation

Glen Iris DIY Kitchen Renovation

If you’re looking to redesign your period home with a diy kitchen renovation so its functional yet stylish then this customer’s renovation is for you. Our Glen Iris couple blended both style and functionality on a strict diy kitchen renovation budget. The task was to achieve a luxury aesthetic whilst maintaining functionality.

How do you renovate a kitchen in a period home without compromising functionality?

Glen Iris, with it’s classic brick bungalow charm, posed a unique challenge: create a kitchen that honours the home’s character on a budget. The period style with high ceilings and classic features, required a design that would maintain the original charm. Our Moorabbin Designer, having spent most of his life in the UK was experienced in period details. He was able to re design the kitchen keeping within the existing kitchen layout, which not only kept the costs in check but also optimised the existing layout enhancing workflow, increasing storage and expanding the benchtop area.

To suit the older style home, the choice was simple. Shaker style cabinetry due to it’s classic elegance. The underbench cabinetry in ‘Terril’ and ‘Pewter’ for the overheads achieves a sophisticated, two-tone look that works well in large space with plenty of natural light. The double height wall of overhead cabinetry, with frosted glass panels and sleek black Kitchen Shack handles, adds a touch of timeless elegance. This classic English-style country kitchen aligns perfectly with the home’s character.

Can adding textures create a cohesive look?

The couple sourced white stone benchtops and a terrazzo tiled splash back from Beaumont Tiles. This creates a cohesive finish that resonates beautifully with the different greys in the cabinetry, creating a cohesive finish.

Can a family kitchen function as a communal space?

Say goodbye to the cramped u-shape design with moulded timber cabinetry and awkward corners to navigate. The introduction of the large central island bench has transformed the space into a communal hub. Now, family and friends can gather around for meals and conversations while leaving ample room for the cook to navigate.

What about storage solutions?

The kitchen renovation didn’t just focus on aesthetics. Smart storage solutions are a highlight with an impressive wall of overhead cabinetry providing dedicated spack for glassware and storing special occasion items. The island bench boasts additional drawer stacks for easy access plates, bowls, cutler and utensils. Pull-out spice racks on either side of the oven cater to the client’s collection of favourite oils and spices.

In summary this kitchen redesign is a beautiful blend of aesthetics and functionality, catering to the needs of a busy family.
