Richmond Apartment Kitchen Renovation

How do you make the most of small spaces when designing a new kitchen renovation?

Do you have a small space, but BIG ideas?

Our clients knew exactly what they wanted in their Richmond Apartment Kitchen Renovation. An entertainer’s kitchen, with an island bench that could host a party but also act as their dining table. The only hitch was they lived in a small inner-city apartment.

Although their Richmond apartment was not that old, the kitchen was a constant source of frustration. Being a keen cook and enthusiastic entertainer, the need for a functional kitchen was super important.

There were several issues with the existing apartment kitchen that needed to be resolved, like:
✏️Lack of bench space
✏️The dining area felt cluttered with the table and chairs
✏️Storage was awkward and inefficient
✏️Small single oven.

Choose an experienced designer that you trust with your kitchen renovation.

Having worked with San, from the Maribyrnong Showroom, on a previous project, they knew he would understand exactly what they were after. Being familiar with Kitchen Shack and the exceptional quality on a budget, it was an obvious choice for their Richmond apartment kitchen renovation. San has a good understanding of designing for small spaces and making every inch count.

Sometimes the greatest challenges can give you the best results. With clever design and problem solving, San was able to give our clients exactly what was on their wishlist. For a small apartment space, that list was extensive!

Our clients wanted a kitchen with:

✏️A large island bench to also act as their dining space,
✏️Two under bench ovens,
✏️A pantry,
✏️Two-tone design,
✏️Efficient storage.

Getting clear on what you need in your apartment kitchen renovation.

They began their kitchen design with a clear idea of what they needed to achieve, and a particular design aesthetic in mind. A clear vision certainly makes the design process a lot easier.

The design brief was ‘classic and sophisticated’, in keeping with their inner-city modern apartment block. To achieve this, they chose Ultra white and black cabinetry, a simple monochromatic theme.  The benchtops are YDL Summer Breeze, which is the perfect choice for the island bench, that now doubles as a dining table.  As serious foodies, they were insistent on having two ovens. A huge benefit when they are entertaining family and friends around the kitchen island bench.

Create the space you have always wanted with smart design and clever solutions.

The couple’s decision to sacrifice the dining table and chairs and instead replace it with the large island bench really paid off.  This has so many advantages, like:

✏️More meal preparation space,
✏️A larger dining area,
✏️More streamline and flow within the apartment,
✏️Increased storage.

As we all know when guests come over, they always congregate around the bench. So why not make it even more inviting? Add some comfy stools that invite guests to stay a while and chat, whilst the master chef works his magic.

Apartment living has certainly shifted over the last few years, and although we are looking for smaller spaces, we are still wanting to entertain and work more at home.
With this mind, our clients also added a very clever study nook in the entrance hallway. By adapting some Kitchen Shack cabinetry and shelving, they were able to design a compact space with a desk, shelving, storage and even a wine rack! Always wise to have good wine close at hand, and just out of view during a Zoom call!

Our clients are thrilled with the results of their new apartment kitchen, and once again, they loved working with San our Kitchen Shack designer throughout the entire process.

Often when we are presented with challenges it forces us to be more creative and think beyond the obvious. This Richmond apartment certainly didn’t make any compromises due to lack of space, in fact they utilised every possible millimetre with outstanding results.

If you have an apartment, townhouse or home with a pokey or small kitchen space, then maybe it’s time to get in touch with our experienced designers. Big ideas with great design can fit in small spaces.
