DIY Kitchen Renovations on a Budget

DIY Kitchen Renovations on a Budget

The kitchen is the heart of the home and everyone deserves an affordable kitchen renovation.

We believe you can add real value to your home, that won’t break your bank!  A renovated kitchen will provide a more functional space and will be inviting for any cook to entertain with family and friends.

Here we share some ideas on how to renovate a kitchen that will be both functional and an affordable kitchen for any budget.

Budget Kitchens

First priority is to set a budget. This is tricky if you don’t know how much a kitchen costs. So before setting your budget take a look at how much does a kitchen renovation cost in Melbourne. Then you can work out how much money you can afford for your complete DIY Kitchen renovation.  This will include the total cost of your renovation cabinetry, accessories, appliances, installation and trades.  Then stick to this budget keeping in mind the 10% rule – set aside an additional 10% for any problems that may arise.

Cabinets and Accessories

There are many products and finishes to choose from when deciding on your kitchen.  Visit  kitchen showrooms to compare products, especially cabinets and panels to view the strength and quality of the components.

Similarly, benchtops come in various finishes and colours from laminates to stone and you will find quality and price vary considerably so shop around to compare prices.

Consider your family’s needs and not just price.  For example is it important to have a pantry to stock all the groceries if you have a large family or, is it more important to have pull out wire baskets and therefore spend some extra budget in these areas.  These are important considerations when working towards your budget so you don’t end up with a cheap kitchen that is not working to your needs.

Appliances

Assess your current appliances to consider if you can keep using these or whether you really need to upgrade and design into your new kitchen space.  It makes the most sense to choose appliances such as oven, cooktop, fridge, rangehood first and then build the design around the Appliances.  Once again visit showrooms and shop around to compare.

To save you extra money on your Budget Kitchen consider:

  • Removing existing kitchen,
  • Paint the kitchen walls,
  • Tile new kitchen walls,
  • Lay new flooring.
