These clients bought a classic home in Lilydale, Victoria, but it didn’t work for their family of four in its original state. But the clients bought the home knowing that they were going to have to do work on it.
The kitchen in its original state didn’t have the function, flow, or storage the clients wanted and needed. It originally featured a sliding glass shelf that was popular in its era but is no longer practical. Mainly, it just collects dust.
While the kitchen design was very popular when the home was originally constructed, it doesn’t do a lot for current-day homeowners.
Since the clients bought the house with the intention of transforming the space, they knew exactly what they wanted to do. One of the clients has a large family that often comes to visit, so it was important that the space could accommodate them.
The clients wanted to open up the kitchen to the living and dining room to create a large, open space. The flow between the spaces was at the top of their priority list, as was an island bench in the kitchen.
The clients spoke with designer Nita at Kitchen Shack Kilsyth to discuss ideas for their kitchen. They decided that the island bench should be the focal point of the room.
They choose the Platinum Inspire cabinets in the colour Spinflex, a soft grey-blue that creates a relaxing atmosphere that matches the rest of the home. The kitchen is a galley style that offers plenty of storage in both upper and lower cabinets as well as extra bench space. It also includes a wine fridge.
Another incredible feature is the pantry design that includes a bookshelf for cookbooks. Other cabinet features include a pull-out system for the bin. The laminate benchtops are stylish and durable, and the overhang on the island bench creates seating for family and friends to enjoy.
