How Long Does a Kitchen Renovation Take?

Planning a kitchen renovation takes time, and one of the first questions customers ask is: how long does a kitchen renovation take?

With Kitchen Shack you can generally expect the process to take around 6 to 10 weeks from initial research through to final finishes. Your individual timeline will depend on your kitchen design, size of your kitchen, product selections, manufacturing demand, installer availability and benchtop choices.

Here’s a typical Kitchen Shack renovation timeline.

Research and Planning: 1-2 weeks

Start by researching kitchen styles, layouts, colours and finishes. Explore our customer kitchen renovation gallery to see what you like and what you don’t.

Next, visit a kitchen showroom. Seeing cabinetry, benchtops, handles and finishes in person makes it much easier to compare quality and narrow down your choices.

This is also the time to establish your renovation budget and decide whether there are other DIY jobs like painting that can help to reduce costs.

Once you have a clear ideas of what you want, you’re ready to book your design appointment.

Kitchen Design and Quote: 1-2 weeks

Production: 2-6 weeks depending on demand

Once your kitchen design and measurements are confirmed (following check measure confirmation if appropriate), your kitchen is placed with manufacturing.

Production generally takes 2-6 weeks depending on demand and kitchen requirements.

While your kitchen is being manufactured, it’s time to confirm your recommended installer dates and sub trades that you need. Remember a Kitchen Shack recommended installer can also assist with plumbers, electricians, plasterers etc.

Now is the perfect time to see if your old kitchen is worth selling and maybe some extra cash!

Kitchen Removal and Install: 1 week

Removing an existing kitchen takes around 1 or 2 days, depending on size and complexity.

Here’s where the plumber and electrical will disconnect existing services before the new cabinetry is installed.

You will be contacted before your delivery date so you can prepare to receive your new kitchen.

During demolition and installation, you’ll have limited access to your kitchen. Setting up a temporary kitchen elsewhere in your home can make life easier although it’s also a good excuse for takeaway!

Benchtops template and Install: 1-2 weeks

Your benchtop timeline depends on the material you choose.

Laminate benchtops can be installed at the same time as the kitchen cabinetry.

Stone benchtops require an additional template and manufacturing stage. once the cabinetry is installed, the benchtop company measures the templates before making the stone to fit.

This process from template to stone benchtop install generally takes 2 weeks. Installation of stone usually takes half a day to fit.

Once the benchtops have been fitted the plumber and electrician can return to complete the final connections.

Plaster, splashback, painting: 1-2 weeks

The final stage is about finishing your new kitchen.

Splashback or tiling work will generally take around 2 days, while plastering, paining and other finishing touches take several more days.

Once these jobs are complete, your kitchen is ready to enjoy!
