When a young couple were looking for their home they immediately saw the potential in this Newport home.

The compact two-bedroom home, originally built around the 1970’s, retained many of its original features however the home was ready for a new chapter.

The property was marketed as an opportunity to retain and renovate its original spaces and the couple knew a Newport kitchen and laundry renovation would be needed.

Before: dated kitchen

Old kitchen style with cream cabinetry and timber trim handles

Before kitchen renovation

The original kitchen had dated character, with cream cabinetry, timber built in handles, tiled floors and an old small oven. While well preserved, the wasted space and finishes made the space feel dated.

The exposed brick wall next to the kitchen felt dark and the kitchen needed more storage for modern day living.

Rather than changing the personality of the home, the design needed to create something functional that still felt sympathetic to its era.

After: Warm, Moody and filled with character

After kitchen renovation

Working with Kitchen Shack Maribyrnong Designer, the finished kitchen creates a beautiful balance between classic and modern.

The standout of this Newport kitchen Renovation is undoubtedly the cabinetry. The Hampton cabinetry in Parchment creates the warmth of previous design, matched with Excel Sepia Walnut in the pantry and shelving to retain the era of the home.  The Kitchen Shack Hampton style ensures the  kitchen fells light and inviting, whilst adding the Sepia Walnut Cabinetry suits the era of the home. Good design blends classic detailing with rich warmth.

The brass handles then complete the design and gives the space a luxury finish.

The Caesarstone Vanilla Noir benchtops provide the dramatic mood for the cabinetry. The benchtops add moodiness and contrast allowing the cabinetry to standout.  The warmth of the splasback tiles adds another layer of texture and colour.

Some of the loved features include the functional coffee station and now makes great use of what was previously an underutilised brick wall.

Using the same Sepia Walnut cabinetry overheads to the adjacent pantry and open shelving to add their special touches creates functional spaces.

A laundry worth showing off

The renovation didn’t stop at the kitchen.

The adjoining laundry has been given the same thoughtful design, creating continuity between the two spaces. A stunning sliding door with fluted glass adds another period detail, while the cabinetry and dark benchtop carries the kitchen’s palette through.

The space is more functional especially with the tall cabinetry to store towels and linen. This laundry design certainly excites the senses.
