Templestowe Kitchen Renovation with a Hidden Twist

Templestowe Kitchen Renovation with a Hidden Twist

Every kitchen renovation has a story, but this Templestowe family’s journey came with an unexpected one. What started as a kitchen renovation soon turned into a structural repair after removing the kitchen revealed what no renovator wants to find – termite damage in a supporting wall.

While this discovery paused the project, it didn’t stop them achieving their dream kitchen. With a lot of patience, the family ended up with a stunning kitchen that not only transformed their home, but also made it more functional and safer than ever.

The Big Surprise behind the wall

During the rip out phase the recommended installer could see the problem instantly. Termites had eaten through important sections of a wall, leaving the timber unsafe. The client commented on how lucky they were that the roof had not caved in previously.

So instead of moving ahead with the kitchen installation, everything paused while a new support beam was put in. As you can imagine this was not what our client’s hoped for, but with using professional trades, the beam was replaced and the kitchen installation could get back on track.

Showroom Design

Our client’s brief was to create a modern, functional, yet open space for the family. The kitchen needed to feel warm yet beautiful and become the true heart of the home.

Working with Mary, Kitchen Shack Preston Designer, it was important to create a better functionality and flow where several family members could easily move around the space.

The new design incorporated:

• More bench space for cooking and meal preparation
• Large island bench for sitting and additional storage
• Pull out drawers inside cabinetry for easier reach and a more organised storage
• A warmer, brighter look to open the room

Choosing the Metro cabinetry in Spinifex colour brings a touch of the outdoors inside, delivering a natural warmth that has delivered on the brief.

A Clever Use of an Old Alcove

It’s great when you can utilise space already existing in your home. Like the re-purposed use of an alcove. Previously awkward and rarely used, it has now the perfect spot to store appliances and bulky items like a mini butler’s pantry to keep benchtops free of clutter and provide additional pantry items.

By re-purposing existing spaces rather than expanding the footprint means the family gains valuable functionality without the increased building cost.

A Kitchen that sits at the heart of the Home

The final kitchen is warm, hard working and has delivered exactly what the family needs.

Kitchen drawers now keep everything organised, fresh cabinetry brightens the room, and the layout now flows effortlessly as the heart of the home. This is the kind of kitchen where people naturally gather, easy to chat to others while cooking up a storm and perfect for family and friends dropping by for a glass of wine.

The family are very happy with how their renovation turned out. What started with termites ended with a space that’s now stronger, more beautiful, and better suited to the modern way of life.
